The definitive guide to V Festival 2017

V Festival overview

A festival so good they hold it twice – V Festival returns in 2017 for two days of unmissable music over two venues. Chelmsford’s Hylands Park, and Weston Park in Staffordshire, host a weekend of music from some of the biggest names on the planet.

V Festival brings together huge artists from all genres, with recent years seeing everyone from The Stone Roses, to Justin Bieber. The annual two-day line-up reads like a who’s-who of current chart-toppers, providing the soundtrack of the summer for its fun-loving crowd. And this year’s line-up includes homegrown talent Jess Glynne and George Ezra, with global acts P!NK and Jay Z taking the headline slots. A weekend ticket for you and your tent will cost £189, while a non-camping weekend ticket costs just £165. Day tickets for V Festival 2017 are an affordable £89 – a fantastic price given the talent on show each day.

Getting to either festival campsite is simple with Megabus. Our buses run from 41 locations, to Birmingham, where you’ll find yourself 30 minutes away from the Staffordshire campsite. Our Silverstone to Colchester service also gets you a handy half an hour away from Hylands Park.

History of the V Festival

V Festival first opened its gates in 1996, as ‘V96’, the brainchild of Jarvis Cocker, whose band Pulp went on to perform at Hylands Park and Victoria Park in Warrington over one weekend. Since then, V Festival moved to Temple Newsam in Leeds, before settling in its current locations in 1999.

The popular weekend festival sees two days of live music, with near-identical line-ups performing across both venues on a Saturday and Sunday. V Festival draws crowds of around 90,000 people per day, generating a buzzing atmosphere full of festival-lovers who want to let loose and enjoy their favourite artists. Past headliners include bands Oasis, Coldplay, The Killers and Kings of Leon, and have spanned all genres, with Eminem, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and Calvin Harris performing memorable sets.

The festival’s 22nd year sees US artists P!NK and Jay Z headline the festival – with P!NK performing at Hylands on the Saturday while Jay Z is in Staffordshire, and the two swapping venues on the Sunday. The two campsites open on Friday 18th August, closing on Monday 21st.

V Festival 2017 welcomes hip-hop legend Jay Z, for a set laced with massive singles from the past two decades. The US rapper has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and will headline the main stage at Weston Park on the Saturday before moving to Hylands on the Sunday. The other headlines slot goes to pop icon P!NK, who is guaranteed to put on a mesmerising show, as well as performing the biggest hits from her 6 albums to date.

The weekend line-up provides an endless stream of hits, with homegrown Rudimental and Craig David appearing on the bill, and bringing with them some of the biggest British tunes from the past few years. Jess Glynne and George Ezra will both make their returns to the festival, but on the main stage this time, on the back of a huge couple of years for the pair. Jay Z is also set to share the stage with UK pop sensations Ellie Goulding and Emeli Sandé, plus grime king Stormzy.

The rest of the weekend is dotted with global names. Jason Derulo and Steve Aoki are on hand to get the crowd moving, while Sean Paul and Dizzee Rascalprovide an urban edge. The Wombats and Scouting for Girls will bring the guitars to the party with pop-rock anthems.

Luxury camping

V Festival offers the perfect alternative to traditional camping, with its V-Style luxury camping options. And you won’t have to worry about arriving early to secure a good spot, or your tent collapsing in the early hours. Luxury camping options include a cabin for 4, with single bunkbeds, bedding and USB power supplies, and cost £2470. A summer lodge for two gives you a beautiful cabin with a double bed, bathroom, and power supplies for £2700. Other luxury camping options include tipis, cabins and even airstreams.

Overnight entertainment

Your night doesn’t have to end when the live music does. At V Festival the party continues until the early hours, with silent discos on both the Friday and Saturday night. Although there’s no live music on the Friday, it’s still worth heading down to the arena in the evening, with DJs and discos taking place in recent years. On Saturday and Sunday nights it’s common for campers to head back to the camping village and host their own parties.

Live music sets

It’s difficult to pick highlights from this year’s line-up, with so many exciting artists on the bill, but we think Ellie Goulding is one to look out for. Going from strength to strength with every release, Goulding has racked up a catchy and anthemic back-catalogue. Not to be missed live, Ellie Goulding is a great performer with an electro-pop sound that is ideal for a sunny festival weekend.

Everyone’s childhood favourites Busted have recently reformed, and are set to storm the V Festival stage in 2017. Armed with pop-rock anthems including Air Hostess and What I Go To School For, they’re bound to get you and your mates jumping this summer.
