Virgin Media’s V Festival returns to Essex this year for a two-day, dual-location event bursting with megastars. Since 1996, V Festival has hosted some of the biggest names in alternative rock and pop, including Pulp, The Prodigy, Stereophonics, Coldplay, Muse and The Strokes. They’ve brought worldwide superstars to Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in South Staffordshire for 15 years straight. And this year is certainly no exception. Saturday 20th sees the potentially reformed bad-boy of pop, Justin Bieber, headlining. His recent album was a shock hit with fans and haters alike, so maybe it isn’t too late to say sorry. R&B poster girl Rihanna kicks off the event in Weston Park, bringing enough No.1 singles with her to write the charts herself.
These two will switch for the following days, taking their incredible roster of supporting acts with them. Internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter SIA will be present, performing tracks from 1000 Forms of Fear, and her new album This is Acting. Trance legends Faithless will be present alongside Bastille, Tinie Tempah, and Rita Ora. It’s a mash-up of genres that promises one hell of a show. And that’s only half the story. David Guetta, the Kaiser Chiefs, Little Mix, Example, Years & Years, and more will be following Rihanna in a mind-blowing line-up with more acts yet to be announced. If you really want to do the weekend in style, V Festival offers luxury camping options to those glamorous enough for a stage of their own.
V Festival has a reputation for being commercially-minded, making it a neater experience than the average festival campsite. Plus, there’s no trade-off for quality of music. V boasts one of the best line-ups of the summer, making it the perfect location for music-lovers who feel the mud and sweat of other festivals isn’t for them. But it isn’t just for the rich and famous; there are plenty of affordable options. Day tickets for either venue start at around £97.00, while weekend tickets go up to about £175.00. And with fares from just £1.50, you can be guaranteed of an affordable journey with Megabus.
